We want every dental visit to be a great experience, starting with your first one. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment and plan to spend between 60 - 90 minutes in our office. You will receive a comprehensive oral examination and x-rays to help your dentist assess your oral health. Your dentist will look for signs of:
- tooth decay
- bone loss
- oral cancer
- periodontal (gum) disease
Your dentist will customize a personal treatment plan for you based on the clinical findings of your initial examination. It will specify the type of cleaning and additional visits you need and include recommendations for home care products. Your dental team will review your treatment plan options and begin treatment after obtaining your consent.

What's Involved
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. At regular check-up exams, your dentist and hygienist will include the following:
- Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions
- Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer
- Gum disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease
- Examination of tooth decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with special dental instruments
- Examination of existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, etc
